Orthopedics footwear producer

You can choose to study after 10 grades (can be unfinished) and 12 grades (duration of studies – 2 years).

The purpose of this programme is to prepare the orthopaedic footwear-makers able to perform the works of individual production and repair of orthopaedic footwear.  Furthermore, the aim is to provide vocational competencies and general skills meeting the needs of the employers and allowing the flexible adaptation to varying labour market requirements.

During the last half-year of studies, the students carry out apprenticeships. The final (15-week) practice is performed in school’s practical training workshops, companies providing orthopaedic footwear production and repair services and footwear production.

The vocational readiness of the student, who passed the entire training programme, is demonstrated by the results of competency assessment examination which evaluates the competencies and general skills laid out in the curriculum. The composition of the commission of competency assessment examinations, organisation and the procedure of the issue of documents are regulated by the Ministry of Education and Science.


Description of qualification

The student, who successfully completes the training programme and passes the final qualification examination, is provided with the qualification of maker of orthopaedic shoes and is issued the vocational education and training diploma.

The acquired competencies include the following:

  • establishment of the condition of the foot, possibilities of application of individual orthopaedic measures;

  • patient servicing;

  • understanding and fulfilment of doctor’s indication in adapting and producing individual orthopaedic means;

  • selection of basic constructions of orthopaedic means;

  • selection and matching of materials, their processing modes;

  • use of footwear production tools and equipment;

  • preparation of composite parts of orthopaedic means;

  • preparation of shoetrees for the production of individual orthopaedic footwear;

  • tailoring of overshoes;

  • footwear formation and fitting of the bottom parts;

  • verification of product quality and customisation according to the client’s needs.

After completing the vocational training programme of maker of orthopaedic shoes, the specialist will be able to work at orthopaedic footwear companies. Having acquired the speciality of maker of orthopaedic shoes, but having no secondary education, the specialist will be able to acquire secondary education and continue studies at a higher education school.
